Wendy Martinez, MD, FACOG, NCMP

Ob/Gyn

Dr. Wendy Martinez is board certified and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her doctorate in medicine with honors from Temple University School of Medicine, and completed her residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, where she also served as chief resident. She is also one of few NAMS certified menopause practioners in the state of NJ practicing for greater than 30 years.

Dr. Martinez has developed one of the largest surgical practices at Virtua, where she is highly respected for her expertise in laparoscopic and laser surgeries, as well as outpatient hysteroscopic removal of polyps and fibroids and vaginal reconstructive surgery for vaginal prolapse. Dr. Martinez also performs cancer surgery, outpatient endometrial thermal ablation for heavy periods, fibroid surgery, and laparoscopic removal of ovaries, tubes and the uterus.

While Dr. Martinez welcomes the opportunity to assist all women with routine obstetrics, she also specializes in high-risk obstetrics. For more than three decades she has cared for pregnant patients with different cancers, thyroid disease, lupus, asthma, chromosomal alterations, diabetes, hypertension, blood clots, and liver disease.

An ardent menopause educator, Dr. Martinez has been a member of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) almost since its inception and is one of the few physicians representing New Jersey among its members. She has lectured extensively for more than a quarter-century on osteoporosis, exercise, nutrition, herbal supplements, and hormones, empowering women to make smart decisions about their health. She also lectures about pregnancy and prevention, as well as sexually transmitted diseases to several local high schools. In addition, she often speaks with breast cancer patients about their follow-up exams and sexual concerns.

When Dr. Martinez founded The Women's Group for OB/GYN in 1991, it was the first all-female gynecology and obstetrical practice in southern New Jersey. Since then Dr. Martinez has served two generations of women; she now treats the daughters of some of her early patients and delivers the babies of women she once delivered. "I went into OB/GYN because I like the continuity of care of patients. I find it rewarding to establish a relationship with a patient and her family. My philosophy has always been to treat my patients as I would treat my own family," she says.

Dr. Martinez has twice been honored as "Woman of the Year" for her exemplary contributions to women's health, and has received congressional and senatorial commendations for her leadership and educational efforts. She has often been named a "Top Doc" in southern New Jersey, New Jersey, and America, but she is perhaps most proud of being recognized as the OB/GYN specialist to whom other doctors would send their own family members.
